Linda Schmitt, At-Large Council Member
Linda was sworn in as an At-Large Councilperson in December 2021.
Family
Linda was raised on a farm northeast of Manchester. She attended and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1979. In 1981 Linda married her husband, Jay Schmitt. She has one son, Mark. Manchester has been her home most of her life.
Work History
Linda begin her business career by participating in the school’s COOP program, in which only a select few seniors were chosen to participate. In this program the student spent part of the school day in school and the other at a job. During this time, she was employed at the Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank. After graduation she worked for Henderson Manufacturing in the sales and purchasing department. In 1981, Linda began her career at Rockwell Collins where she remained for almost twenty years. Linda and her husband also owned and operated a U-Pick strawberry farm near Dyersville for a couple years. The last thirty years she has been owner/business manager of their rental properties they provide to Manchester residents.
Community Involvement
Linda feels she has already been involved with the community sharing her talents with others. In 2011 her pride and joy (gardens and yard) were one of many featured in the Heartland Quilters Garden Walk. She was a member of the now defunct Manchester Chapter of the Sweet Adelines. She has also volunteered at the Manchester Food Bank.
