Hiring I Police Chief

The City of Manchester, Iowa (population 5,065) is seeking candidates for the position of police chief. The current chief is retiring after serving thirty (30) years in law enforcement, with the last ten (10) years as chief of the Manchester Police Department. Manchester is the county seat of Delaware County, located in beautiful northeast Iowa. Manchester is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 20 and State Highway 13. Education Requirements:

Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Police Science, Law Enforcement, Criminology or closely related field. A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree

Experience:

Extensive, progressively more responsible experience in police supervisory and administrative work. A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of this experience requirement

Salary and Benefits: 

The police chief is an FLSA exempt position

Salary: Negotiable DOQ; salary range is anticipated to be $95,000 - $105,000

Generous benefit package including: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, Iowa Public Employee Retirement System (IPERS) contributions, group health/dental/vision, life insurance, and flexible health/dependent care spending plan availability

Certification:

     Candidates must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, be able to obtain an Iowa Professional Permit to Carry Weapons, and meet the licensing standards established by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy ILEA | Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. The successful candidate (if non-Iowa Certified) must pass a physical agility test, cognitive exam (POST test), psychological examination (MMPI – II), physical examination, and drug screen

Residency:

The City requires that the successful candidate live within 10 miles of the city limits within a reasonable amount of time
